FOR SALE is a 1975 Porsche 911 Turbo Tribute that we acquired from its longtime owner in Lafayette, California. The previous owner owned the car for nearly 50 years. During the 1980s, the car was professionally converted into a 930 tribute using steel Turbo flares and fitted with a genuine 1983 Porsche 930 3.3L turbocharged engine. The braking system and supporting components were upgraded to properly handle the increased performance.
This Porsche comes with an extensive history file containing over $108,000 in documented maintenance and repairs spanning decades of ownership.
Mechanically, the car runs and drives exceptionally well. Power comes from the 3.3L turbocharged flat-six paired to the desirable 5-speed 915 manual transmission, making the car significantly more enjoyable and usable than a traditional 4-speed 930. The car is accident-free to our knowledge, shows no significant rust concerns, and benefits from being a 1975 model year, making it exempt from California smog requirements.
Major Mechanical History
1988 – Full Engine Rebuild | Ferrari of Sacramento | 119,964 Miles
Documented engine rebuild including pistons and cylinders, bearings, valve guides, exhaust valves, chain rails, rod bolts, and machine work.
Early 1990s – Top-End Engine Service | German Specialty Cars
Records indicate subsequent engine work including valve guides, piston and cylinder service, timing chain work, and flywheel machining. Appears to be a top-end refresh rather than another complete rebuild.
1994 – Major Service & Engine Reseal | Salerno Motorsports
Engine oil leak repairs, valve adjustment, oil line replacement, brake service, and A/C updates.
2014 – Engine-Out Reseal | Salerno Motorsports | ~150,530 Miles
Engine and transmission removed for resealing. Leakdown test showed all cylinders below 5%.
2016 – Turbocharger Replacement | Salerno Motorsports | ~159,895 Miles
Rebuilt turbocharger installed along with related gaskets, seals, and hardware.
2018 – Transmission Rebuild | Salerno Motorsports | ~173,750 Miles
Transmission disassembled and rebuilt due to worn fifth gear, including synchros, bearings, and gearbox components.
2022 – Fuel System Restoration | German Autowerk
Fuel tank cleaned, fuel pump, accumulator, filter, sending unit, and fuel hoses replaced, along with additional brake and ignition service.
Overall, this Turbo Tribute benefits from decades of documented ownership and maintenance, including a full engine rebuild, subsequent top-end work, engine-out reseal, turbocharger replacement, transmission rebuild, and comprehensive fuel system restoration. Combined with its genuine 930 turbocharged powerplant, desirable 5-speed manual transmission, steel Turbo body conversion, and California pre-smog status, it represents a well-sorted and extensively documented air-cooled Porsche.
